The role

To launch and ramp Berlin Structural Battery with the speed and intensity of the Battery Line in Shanghai, we need a few permanent, local design engineers.  The launch engineer will start supporting prototype builds in Fremont now, allowing them to hit the ground running when we turn on production equipment in Berlin later this year.

 

Responsibilities:

Tight integration with the Berlin Gigafactory production line.
Work with manufacturing, production, and quality to ensure all programs remain on schedule.
Work with design team members in California to make part changes to improve production
Visit suppliers and help them improve their process and production lines to make sure incoming parts are high quality.
Respond to problems on the production line, perform root cause analysis, develop a solution, and validate the solution before pushing to production.
Ongoing design engineering support to improve Tesla battery quality and production rate.
Requirements:

A study in Mechanical Engineering or related w/ solid mechanical intuition
Hands-on mechanical engineering experience, preferably with high volume manufacturing
Demonstrated successful experience in mechanical engineering from concept through production release with a focus on DFM
Experience in quality control, root cause analysis, or supplier quality improvement
A detail oriented personality with solid documentation and reporting skills
Proficient in CAD modeling, CATIA v5 or v6/3DX experience a plus but not mandatory
Experience with various manufacturing processes such as plastic injection molding, metal stamping, extruding, casting, welding/brazing, plating, heat treating, bonding, and fastener selection. Direct machine shop skills a plus.
Proficient in both English and German
