Flow measurement is essential in industries such as oil, power, chemical, food, water, and waste treatment industries.

The flow quantity is determined by volume-flow rate, mass-flow rate or flow velocity.

Some important flow meters are

Orifice plate

The Orifice Plate is a device used for measuring flow rate. It also used for reducing pressure.

It uses Bernoulli’s Principle which states that “there is a relationship between the pressure of the fluid and the velocity of the fluid. When the velocity increases, the pressure decreases, and vice versa.”

Venturi Tube

The simplest apparatus is a tubular setup known as a Venturi tube or simply a venturi.

Pitot tube

A pitot tube or Pitot probe is used to measure fluid flow velocity.

Ultrasonic flowmeter

There are two types of ultrasonic flow meters, doppler ultrasonic flowmeter, and transit-time ultrasonic flow meter.
