Do industries prefer a girl as a Mechanical Engineer?

mechanical girl

Mechanical engineering is not gendered specific, but it has one of the lowest females to male ratio compared to other engineering programmes(about 13.8%)

Let’s see the current scenario, problems and opportunities…

Why most of the girls do not choose Mechanical?

‘I don’t want to handle machinery and get lubricants and grease all over me’

or

I don’t want to work in an exclusively male environment

or

I don’t see any females in this field anyway, let alone holding key positions or taking key decisions or making key breakthroughs.

or

I don’t want to work on the shop floor.

But what I believe is that girls are as good as boys to study this field. Mechanical does not mean industry works but a stream of design, development and implementation.

Why choose Mechanical?

You may find Many Female Mechanical Engineers who are doing great in this field.

This branch involves more of a logical approach. It deals with how things around us work in reality. It even comprises the design and development of new products that can be useful in day to day life to make it simpler and easier.

Some extra benefits.. you may not like it 🙂

  1. You will be the most known girl in the entire college or organization.
  2. You can be a promoter of gender equality as a live example of it.
  3. You will always have extra support from your faculties.
  4. You won’t have to worry about your mechanical workshop projects and practical subjects. Boys will always be ready to get it done for you.
  5. Believe it or not, no one in your class will even dare to talk rudely with you.
